As an introduction to Iguana care you need to know that when you own an iguana you have to balance their living environment with their needs for the most natural levels of protection. If you don’t take the time to find the right type of living area and give your Iguana the proper care, he will not be as healthy as he should be. In fact, without the right environment, he will die.
A lot of people that buy an iguana as a pet don’t invest enough time in determining its right living environment. The bottom line is that without a carefully controlled living environment, the iguana can become ill.
The first thing to think about is that green iguanas, if taken care of properly, can grow rather large. Many people buy a baby iguana on impulse, and then when it starts to grow larger than they were prepared to handle, they don't want it anymore.
When they get older, they will usually either need a large, custom-built cage, or free roam of the house with a well-heated basking spot.
Aside from the shelter you will need to know about heating, lighting, feeding, water and humidity, taming and claw trimming to name a few. In other articles I will cover each of these topics.
